We meet in small groups called cells
Our vision for cell groups is that these groups create spaces for all kinds of people - however they may identify themselves in terms of what they do and do not believe, and regardless of whether they consider themselves formally part of church or not - to be able to experience the love of God as revealed in Jesus.
We believe that God's love can be made known through the tangible experience of being loved by others in community and through the unseen work of the Holy Spirit (as well as many other ways!). To this end, we encourage cell groups to practice hospitality, to pray and to discern how God is calling us to creatively serve others in our lives.
Choosing to meet in these intentional communities is a strategic decision to resist the natural human urge to stick with 'people like us'. It is also a decision to let go of the need to build relationships with absolutely everyone in the wider church and instead develop deeper relationships for a time with a few people.
As our cells grow, they multiply into more groups. We acknowledge that this can be felt as a sacrificial 'letting go' of existing relationships, but we choose to do this so that we can continue to create hospitable spaces for guests, visitors and new additions to our community. We believe that in doing so, we make space for God who, as both Scripture and Christian tradition attest, often comes to us in the guise of a stranger.

What would life be if we knew all the answers? What would a birthday be without surprises? Why do we try to put God in a box so that we can understand him? And then when we think we have, get bored with him? Why? Because if you know all the answers you don’t need questions, and that’s where God is hiding waiting to be found.
We warm ourselves around a fire (sometimes), we eat together (sometimes) and we share our stories and lives. Through prayer, worship, reflection we seek out the questions that God is asking us in so we can try live out faith in a real authentic way.

As a cell there are two main things that we have as a focus. First off, we are committed to helping each other grow to know God better, live our lives fulfilling God's potential in us and be friends we can count on for help, prayer and hospitality. We meet Wednesdays from 7.45 to 10pm-ish and start with a meal together. We share, pray, discuss what we are learning ourselves or through Sunday gatherings or anything else that we feel would be useful. It's organised but flexible and relaxed!
Secondly, we want to be community for people, friends or colleagues outside the church who would appreciate being part of a wider friendship network - people who have just moved to Luton from other parts of the UK or abroad and want to start to connect with people or anyone who just wants to make more friends locally. We see ourselves a bit like the mustard tree - an expression of the kingdom of God where people can 'perch' and find rest and shelter through contact with us as God's people or where people can make their 'nest' and really start their own journey of faith and knowing God. We have started to organise regular social events and are building up a network of local and international friends.
Our cell meets every Thursday and we spend time catching up, eating dinner together, and sharing some thoughts about faith and life, taking time to pray or meditate. We have a 4 week plan which we use each month:
Week 1 - Social. This could be anything from Bowling to dinner out, to just crashing at someone’s watching a movie. This is just time to spend with each other and getting to know each other better.
Week 2 - Reflection. Someone from the group shares a reflection or thought for the group to think about and discuss. This could be anything; something from the bible, something found in a book or video, or just something you’ve been thinking about in regards to faith, spirituality and life.
Week 3 - Serving. We want to make sure that as a group we are serving and loving our local community. Together as a group we decide different ways we can help out those local to us, and get stuck in serving!
Week 4 - Reflection. Someone from the group shares a reflection or thought for the group to think about and discuss. This could be anything; something from the bible, something found in a book or video, or just something you’ve been thinking about in regards to faith, spirituality and life.
Wild Card Week (on the months where there is a 5th Thursday) we throw caution to the wind and think of another fun thing to do.
We would love to have you along!
